ABOUT THE RESIDENCY

Over the course of six critically acclaimed conceptual solo albums, New Orleans born singer, songwriter, & producer & visionary Dawn Richard has become one of the most progressive & critically-hailed forces in left-field pop, R&B, & electronic music. From her early appearances on television's Making the Band, her stints with top-selling pop groups Danity Kane & Dirty Money, to solo album projects like Goldenheart (2013), Blackheart (2015), Redemption in 2016, New Breed (2019) & the widely-lauded Second Line (2021), she's forged an unparalleled career & garnered widespread visibility. She's been a headliner on festivals & concerts, & landed hits on the Billboard R&B/hip-hop & Dance/Electronic charts. Dawn is the first artist in Clive Davis Institute history to receive a one-week residency. She'll be joined by multi-instrumentalist, producer, & composer Spencer Zahn as they present their first collaborative album, Pigments (released Friday October 21st on Merge Records). A follow up to Dawn's 2021 Second Line, Pigments is an expressive soundscape that tells the story of finding one's self through dance, self-expression, & community through the lens of New Orleans' contemporary arts scene. It's an immersive passage through the city as seen through the eyes of a young Black girl with dreams to paint her future with the pigments given to her.
